Jadwiga and Marian Sobieski Collection

Jadwiga and Marian Sobieski, prominent Polish ethnomusicologists, started their research into Polish folk music in the 1930s. In 1950-54 they took part in the nationwide Fieldwork Collection of Musical Folklore. Long-standing employees of the Institute of Art, Polish Academy of Sciences, they published a range of books and papers on Polish folk music heritage, and developed a system of music transcription for the study of Polish folklore. The collection of musical instruments they assembled during their field trips dispersed. The objects presented here come from the collection of the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments in Szydłowiec.
