Description: body made from a tree branch covered with bark in which the duct was hollowed out and burnt out; six fingerholes in two parallel rows

Sound compass, tuning: diatonic scale; the range of two octaves may be achieved with the use of overblowing; the player may produce chromatic sounds by leaving the fingerholes partly open or using the piper's grip (which is rare in folk performance practice); a pipe's tone and tuning depends on the layout of fingerholes, the instrument's size and precision of its execution
Performance practice: traditionally made and played by shepherds
